Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.
  1. Who can get a library card?
    • Each member of a family can receive a library card.
    • Every newborn in the Dike area receives a library card through our books for babies program.
    • A complimentary card is given out to visiting patrons.
  2. How do I get a library card?
    • Applications for a library card are available at the circulation desk. A  parental release form must be signed by parents for minors to be able to check out movies.
  3. What is the length of checkout for library materials?
    • Books and audio tapes/cd's are checked out for 2 weeks.
    • Magazines are checked out for 2 days.
    • DVD's and VHS tapes are checked out for 1 day.
    • Reference material is checked out for 1 day.
  4. Can I borrow or return library materials from other libraries here?
    • The Dike Public Library can borrow materials from other libraries through SILO.
    • Materials borrowed from other libraries may be brought to the Dike Public Library and will be returned to the borrowing library.
  5. Can library material be renewed?
    • Library materials may be renewed in person or by phone. Restrictions apply to new materials and DVD/VHS rentals.
  6. What are fines for materials not returned on time?
    • Book and audio tapes/cd fines are 10 cents per day.
    • Magazine fines are $1.00 per day.
    • DVD/VHS  fines are $2.00 per day.
    • Reference material fines are $1.00 per day.
  7. Can I request material for the library to purchase?
    • The Dike Public Library accepts request for materials and it will be taken under advisement by library personnel.
  8. Can I reserve library materials?
    • Library materials can be placed on reserve by contacting the library. Books must be picked up within 3 days of notification and movies must be picked up on the day requested.
